SEARCHING FOR THE UPPER
LIMITS OF MP-SPECT
The case study shown below is an MP-SPECT study from a 430 pound
patient whose body habitus exceeded the rotational limits of the
Philips/ADAC Vertex SPECT system. It appeared that the study would
have to be canceled which is a circumstance that is repeated in many
imaging labs across the country every day.
With no other available option, we were called to inquire about the
upper size limits for the MP-SPECT system and accepted the
opportunity to investigate this aspect of our system performance.
The patient had already received his resting injection (10 mCI of
Myoview) so it was logical to use our standard simultaneous
dual-isotope MPI protocol and ordered in 4.0 mCi of TL-201.
Pharmacologic stress was performed with Lexiscan. Positioning the
patient with his arms at his side took less than 3 minutes and the
single acquisition imaging session took 12 minutes. A very grateful
patient left the department 35 minutes after the Tl-201 was
delivered.
We still don’t know what the absolute limit on patient size is for
MP-SPECT but we think the set of normal images shown in the slices
below speaks for themselves. Another benefit can be added to the
check-list of MP-SPECT advantages.
