Advantages of MP-SPECT

REASONS TO CONSIDER MP- SPECT FOR

MYOCARDIAL PERFUSION IMAGING (MPI)

 

INCREASED DETECTION EFFICIENCY - A greater portion of the detector is focused on imaging the myocardium thereby increasing the statistical certainty of accurate diagnosis.

The increase in detected counts per second allows:

  • Simultaneous imaging of multiple isotopes (Tc-99m and Tl-201 together)

  • Higher resolution gated MPI (16 frames per beat for standard dosage)

  • Tracking of recovery from LV ischemic segmental dysfunction during post stress period

 

 

INCREASED INFORMATION CONTENT - List-mode acquisition contains intrinsic information that supports image corrections and enhanced off-line processing capabilities not possible with other systems.

 

List-mode acquisition enables features such as:

  • Image acquisition during pharmacologic stress with dobutamine

  • Dual-Peak Attenuation Compensation (DPAC) of stress Tl-201 images

  • Tracking of respiratory motion on a beat-by-beat, breath-by-breath basis

 

 

ADVANCED RECONSTRUCTION AND ANALYSIS - Iterative reconstruction and the use of advanced stress/rest MPI normalization improves diagnostic certainty for detection and monitoring of CAD.

 

These techniques provide increased confidence for clinical interpretation

  • MLEM reconstruction is constrained to converge in the region of the myocardium and avoid the effects of excessive hepatobiliary uptake.

  • Flow changes are identified in potential high count regions of the myocardium to eliminate artifactual “reverse redistribution”

  • 16 frame gated MPI allows higher harmonic phase analysis of onset of LV contraction and diastolic performance (32 frame/beat gated studies with 2 min acquisitions using >25 mCi of Tc-99m).

  • Reconstructed images are DICOM compliate for easy porting to the Emory Cardiac Toolbox
